WORLD WILDLIFE DAY

The Kano State Project Coordinator (SPC) Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (Kano-NEWMAP) Alhaji Musa Shuaibu has urged the Wildlife Association of Kano State to continue diligently in fighting the challenges that the Wildlife is facing in Nigeria and the continent in general.

The SPC gave the advice today in a meeting organised by the Kano Zoological Management Agency (KAZOMA) in commemoration of the 2022 World Wildlife Day held at the Elephant Marquee Botanical Garden Hall situated in the Kano Zoological Garden.

Commending the efforts of the Wildlife Association in organizing the event to sensitize public and brainstorm on the importance of Wildlife in community, Alhaji Musa Shuaibu said awareness needs to be created that the conformity of the existence of Wildlife is also as important with the conformity of human being, God has created both to coexist.

There are serious encroachment and over exploitation of Wildlife resources, bush burning and habitat destruction as a result of absence of research, law and legislation that will regulate the negative attitude of people on the forest resources, He added.

He therefore called on them to focus their thinking towards filling the gaps by promoting education within the public and to endeavour to engage partnerships with relevant stakeholders to achieve greater height in the course.

The SPC also used the opportunity to share with the audience at the occasion some insights on the ACReSal project PDOs that would go in line with supporting the Wildlife conservation and land degradation management.

 

Alhaji Musa Shuaibu further disclosed that the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) is a new project conceived by the World Bank in collaboration with State Government of the 19 Northern States including the FCT that are going to participate in the project.

The project which is designed to succeed the out going NEWMAP project will centred towards controlling different aspects of land degradation, and promotion of some protected areas like Falgore game reserve, the zoos and national parks, adding that the ACReSAL in Kano State is going to work closely with KAZOMA.

Participants at the event included senior officials of the relevant MDAs members of academia, environmental clubs among others.
