The Commissioner made the reaffirmation today during a meeting with the team of consultants engaged by the World Bank for the development of Agro Climatic Resilience In Semi Arid Landscapes (ACRESAL) Project Implementation Manual.
The Commissioner who delightfully shared the news of the Kano-NEWMAP obtaining final clearance by the World Bank for the execution of one of the four water conservation structures proposed to be constructed by the Project in Kano State, adding that the government will continue to collaborate with the Federal Government and the World Bank for realization of the ones that are on the pipeline.
He then called on participants to contribute meaningfully to the process for the success of the Project in the State and the country at large.
Meanwhile, ACRESAL is a project designed to address deforestation and land degradation across nineteen nirthern states of Nigeria including Kano State.
The Project, which is a purely agricultural Project aimed at simplifying agricultural processes towards enhancing the living standard and Livelihood of the Project beneficiary communities.
In an effort to Facilitate the effectiveness of the assignment, the team of consultants engaged, embarked on a consultation tour across the concerned states to met one on one with stakeholders from relevant MDAs, for necessary input that will be of benefit base on each state’s peculiarities.
Upon arriving Kano State, the team under the leadership Dr. Odili Ojukwu met with Kano State Project Management Unit staff (KANO-NEWMAP)of the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) in the Conference Hall of the State Project Management Unit.
Issues discussed at the meeting included current status, with necessary Kano-NEWMAP officers, Concerns relating to effectiveness and adaptability from NEWMAP to ACRESAL among others.
The team also met with stakeholders from relevant MDAs later in the day, at Ten-to-Ten restaurant Conference Hall in the State capital, for consultations and necessary contributions for the benefit of the State under the ACRESAL to be maximized.
Earlier speaking in his welcome address, the State Project Coordinator (SPC) Alhaji Musa Shuaibu said that the meeting was organized in respect of the intention of the Federal Government and Work Bank plan to develop a new project that, titled Agro Climatic Resilience In Semi Arid Landscapes (ACRESAL).
This called for the need to bring expert from relevant MDAs to involved in deep down discussions on how best to develop the Project Implementation Manual (PIM) for successful implementation of the Project, He added.
Participants for the meeting were drawn from the State Ministry of Environment under the able leadership of the Honourable Commissioner of Environment Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim Getso, Commissioner of Women Affairs Hajiya Zahra’u Muhammad Umar representatives of the Commissioners of the Ministry of Land and Physical Planning, Min. Of Finance, Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources, Ministry for Local Government, Min. Of Works, SPMU staff among others.
