1.  Based GIS Mapping Project of Erosion Control and Water Conservation Site Project (KNSPMU / CQS / 17/ 2.3 on ID No. 124905).

The Project Management Unit of Kano State NEWMAP commissioned various studies aimed at effectuating successful Implementation of the NEWMAP in the state; through the initial Mapping of Gully Erosion / Flood sites (namely ; Rarin-Dawakin Tofa, Kamanda-Kiru, Yansabo-Tofa, YarTiti-Shanono, Tudun-Fulani – Bachirawa-Ungogo,  Bulbula-Gayawa-Nassarawa, Kauyen ALU- Tarauni, Fajewa-Takai, and Dawan Kaya- Makoda)  to generate Land Resources Inventory data within a Geographic Information System (GIS) Framework. This has aided in knowing the status of gully erosion sites and land resources in the State and also underpinned project presentation and reporting on key status of erosion sites especially the sites for the NEWMAP GRASS component.

2.  Baseline Survey Project on Bulbula / Gayawa Erosion Control Intervention Site (KNSPMU/CQS/17/4.6 on ID. 124905)

The Project Management Unit of Kano State NEWMAP has concluded the socioeconomic study of Bulbula gully areas in the selected residential areas flanking the Nassarawa/ Ungogo boarder this involves Gunde, Gandu and Gama residential areas. 3.  Baseline Survey Project on Tudun Fulani Erosion Control Intervention Site (KNSPMU/CQS/17/4.6 on ID. 124905)

NEWMAP_Kano’s Project on Tudun Fulani gully erosion control site has gathered all the necessary information concerning the drainage affected with deep impacts that possessed pattern from Yammatan Cikin Gari to Watari River.  The headwaters of the gully have a finger creating a badlands within the Tudun Fulani Settlement. This proves a threat to many houses and other socioeconomic activities including transportation. Detailed baseline report can be read below:-

4.  Baseline Survey Project on Kamanda Erosion Control Intervention Site (KNSPMU/CQS/17/4.6 on ID. 124905)

NEWMAP-Kano Project has intervention site located at Kamanda located at Kiru LGA whose gully erosion flows from southwest to northwest direction draining storm waters downstream into the Challawa River. The head of the gully has fingers-like structure, creating a badland within the Kiru town. This is a threat to many houses and other socio-economic activities including transportation. 5.  Baseline Survey Project on Rarin Erosion Control Intervention Site (KNSPMU/CQS/17/4.6 on ID. 124905)

The Rarin gully is located west of Dawakin Tofa town of Kano State. It streaches from the southwest to northwest water downstream into the Watari River. The head of the gully has a finger-like structure, creating a badland within the Dawakin Tofa town. This is a threat to many houses and other socio-economic activities including transportation. 6.  Baseline Survey Project on Kauyen ALU Erosion Control Intervention Site (KNSPMU/CQS/17/4.6 on ID. 124905)

NEWMAP-Kano Project has also identified a project area located at Kauyen ALU that has a gully erosion with greater impact located at Tarauni LGA within the Kano Metropolis. It extends from the southwest to northwest, draining storm waters downstream into the Watari River. It is a threat to many houses and other socio-economic activities including transportation. 7.  Baseline Survey Project on Yartiti Water Conservation site (KNSPMU/CQS/17/4.6 on ID. 124905)

Yartiti is another Water Conservation sites committed with NEWMPA-Kano Project . It is a site located southwest of Shanono town of Kano State. It flows from the southwest to northwest direction draining storms water upstream into the Watari River. The Dam site provided for water storage has broken down, creating a badland within the reservoir. This poses threat of gully erosion to the many farms around the area and creating environmental tension on other socio-economic infrastructures, including transportation. 8.  Baseline Survey Project on Yan Sabo Water Conservation site (KNSPMU/CQS/17/4.6 on ID. 124905)

Yan Sabo water conservation site is another priority site for NEWMAP-Kano Project site located north of Yan Sabo town of Kano State. The River providing feeding to the dam flows from north to southeast direction draining storms waters downstream into the Watari River system. The Water conservation structure has collapsed a decade ago, after been constructed to conserve water for Yan Sabo and neighboring communities. This is rather a threat to the existing bridge, farmlands and other socio-economic activities in the area; the threat is not only limited to that but transportation as well. 9.  Baseline Survey Project on Fajewa Water Conservation site (KNSPMU/CQS/17/4.6 on ID. 124905)

Fajewa Water conservation site is another project area of commitment by NEWMAP-Kano Project. It is a project area located at east of Takai town, the area is made up of highlands with altitude high to 526m above sea level. The grouped hills of the southern part of the town are the main sources of the Fajewa impounding reservoir located in the south-west corner constructed in 1970s and now facing extinction with shallow water due to siltation and seepage, our findings shows the level of shallowness with children playing in the reservoir. 10.  Baseline Survey Project on Dawan Kaya Water Conservation site (KNSPMU/CQS/17/4.6 on ID. 124905)

NEWMAP-Kano project at Dawan Kaya water conservation site has tremendously made the project possible based  on the fact that it has a flown river from southwest to northeast direction draining storms water into the downstream  of Tomas dam located at Makoda LGA. The site poses threat through the evidence of severe project erosion abounds in the general area of Dawan Kaya. For detailed information and report of the project is located below:-
