The Kano State Commissioner of Environment Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim Getso had pleaded with the World Bank to consider facilitating the effort of the Kano-NEWMAP to commence civil work in earnest.
The Commissioner drop the plea yesterday at the Virtual Supervision Mission Review/Debriefing at the office of the Project Coordinator, at the State Project Management Unit.
The Commissioner who reiterated the State Government’s support to the Project under the able leadership of His Excellency the Executive Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje ofr (Khadimul Islam), expressed dismay over the in ability of the Project to obtain clearance for the design of four water conservation structures submitted to the Bank.
Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim Getso pleaded with Bank through the Task Team Leader of the Project to consider thumbs-upping the Kano-NEWMAP designs to pave way for commencement of civil work before the expiration of the Project life span.
In another development, the Commissioner commended the Kano-NEWMAP team over the Bank’s recommendation of the of the State Project Management Unit for implementing the Project in a transparent, reliable and result oriented manner, based on the current Fudiciary Review by the Bank.
In response to the Commissioner’s request of fast tracking the commencement of civil works in the State, the Task Team Leader (TTL) of NEWMAP Nigeria Dr. Amos Abu assured the Commissioner that the designs, which are now with the Federal Quality Control firm for scrutiny will pass the procedure in no time, and that will mark the beginning of civil works intervention in the State.
Dr. Amos Abu then commended the Kano State Government’s for its continual support to the Project and the intent and determination to participate in the proposed NEWMAP II.
