In continuation with the process of implementation of Resettlement Action Plan (RAP) in Yansabo community of Tofa LGA, the proposed site for the construction of water conservation structures and provision of minor irrigation facilities by Kano-NEWMAP, the staff of the SPMU were engaged in a training of key actors considered crucial for the success of the exercise in State.
The training was facilitated today at the premises of the State Project Management Unit of the NEWMAP by Mr. Andy of the Umbrella NGO from the Federal Project Management Unit FPMU of the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP).
Addressing participants at the training, the State Commissioner of Environment Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim Getso urged them to put in their best to the training, adding that good understanding of what was taught at the training will determine the success of the exercise.
The State Project Coordinator Alhaji Musa Shuaibu in his welcome address, commended the efforts and determination of the facilitator to see that that RAP is implemented successfully in Kano State.
The PC went further to described that the Umbrella NGO of the FPMU happens to be responsible for the implementation of RAP in all the Project’s participating States, this compelled the Kano-NEWMAP to also sought for their support and guidance for the success of the exercise.
The training dwelled on the roles and responsibilities of the key desk officers (Safeguard Officers) as well as the contribution of the supporting officers for successful implementation of the RAP in the State to achieved.
The Project also encouraged the SIWES students serving with the Project to take good advantage of the situation, where they will get the practical experience of what they might have learnt from school, as opportunity of such kind rarely comes around.
Participants at the training included the SPMU staff, the Focal NGO, Social Livelihood Officer from Sokoto NEWMAP, SIWES students from Bayero University Kano among others.
