In its effort to complement the effort of the State Ministry of Environment, the Kano State Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (Kano-NEWMAP) has embarked on desilting of major drainages across the eight metropolitan Local Government Areas in the state.
The State Project Coordinator Alhaji Musa Shuaibu disclosed this in an interview with journalists during the flag up of the year 2020 drainage clearance exercise held at Kofar Nassarawa along the emir palace road in the State capital.
The Project Coordinator further stated that the activity has become a norm by the Project since its conception by the State Government under the State Ministry of Environment, supporting the Ministry’s proactive measures taken annually to contain flood eventualities during the rainy season.
The exercise which was flagged up recently by His Excellency the Executive Governor of Kano State Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje ofr (Khadimul Islam) was intended to clear about 15km network of primary drainages across the eight metropolitan Local Government Areas.
The the exercise will also include secondary drainages covering the total length of 10km and 15km length of tertiary drainages, he added.
