KANO-NEWMAP Signs DAM Construction of Yan Sabo Water Conservation Structure inTofa L.G.A

Kano State Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project Kano-NEWMAP has officially signed a contract for construction of water conservation structure in Yan-sabo Community, Tofa local Government area of Kano State.

The signing took place today at the Conference Hall of the Kano State Project Management Unit of NEWMAP between the Kano-NEWMAP under the State Ministry of Environment on one hand and representative of the Rockbridge Construction Ltd on the other hand.

The State Commissioner of Environment Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim Getso the Chairman Steering Committee of the Project who presided over the session in his address called on the construction firm to deliver to the expectations of the State Government under the able leadership of his Excellency the Executive Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje OFR for the work to be able to stand the taste of time for the benefit of the teaming populace of the State.

Feliciting the Kano State Government over achieving the major milestone, the Commissioner also commended the efforts of alll stakeholders that played a role that translated into making the intervention see the light of the day.

The Commissioner particularly commended the efforts of the entire staff of the Kano-NEWMAP for their commitments towards achieving the Project Development Objectives using the spirit of team work.

While congratulating the construction company over the victory, the Commissioner urged them to justify the confidence reposed on them using the track records of their profile as per as the policies and guidelines governing the engagement or procurement of every activity by the World Bank.

Earlier speaking, the State Project Coordinator Alhaji Musa Shuaibu, extended gratitude to almighty Allah for making it possible to witness the long awaiting time when civil work will commence in Kano State under the Project, adding that eventhough Yansabo is one of the four water conservation structures that Kano-NEWMAP is aspiring to get as pledge by the Bank, obtaining clearance for Tofa water conservation structures means hope for the remaining three sites.

The PC shared some slides from the Engeering design work of the proposed site for the intervention, which include the Catchment and the general layout of the site, maps indicating the dam’s options, dam and irrigation layout, general plan and profile of the dam, typical dam intake and outlet cross section, spill way profile details, spill way channel plan among others.

On their part, the leader of the delegation of the construction Company who is the Managing Director Mr. Jihad expressed gratitude for getting the opportunity to work in the State, assuring the Kano State Government through the Honourable Commissioner of Environment of the quality and timely delivery of the assignment.

In the same vein, shortly after the signing of the contract, the SPMU team, representatives of the construction company, representatives of the Yaroson Partnership Ltd, ( Consultancy firm engaged by the Kano-NEWMAP to supervise the construction of the water conservation structures) Director Hydrology from the State Ministry of Water Resources, Legal practitioner from the State Ministry of Justice among other stakeholders departed for site inspection and handing over of the site from Kano-NEWMAP through the Yaroson Partnership (Supervision firm) to the construction company.

The handing over took place in the presence of the Executive Chairman Tofa LGA, The District head of Tofa Makaman Bichi Alhaji Isyaku Umar Tofa, SPMU team, representatives of the Supervision Firm, Construction company, among others.
