KANO STATE HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY HAS PASSED THE BILL FOR THE CREATION OF EROSION, WATERSHED AND CLIMATE CHANGE AGENCY (KN-WECCMA) INTO LAW.

The Kano State Commissioner of Environment Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim Getso disclosed that the State House of Assembly has today passed the bill for the creation of Erosion Watershed and Climate Change Agency (KN-WECCMA) into Law.

The Commissioner made the disclosure to journalists today in the Conference Hall of the Kano-NEWMAP office, in the presence of the State Project Coordinator Alhaji Musa Shuaibu, Director Forestry from the Ministry and staff of the State Project Management Unit.

Commending the State House for the priority accorded the bill, Dr. Kabiru Getso recalled that the House just resume operation after recession, this determine their concern to issues that will positively touch the lives of the people of Kano State.

Responding to journalists during the interview, the Commissioner said that Kano-WECCMA( the agency) is a creation under the State Ministry of Environments of the nineteen Northern States of Nigeria that are going to participate in the brand new project titled “Agro-Climatic Resilience in Arid and Semi-Arid Landscapes” (ACRESAL), the Agency (Kano-WECCCMA) is saddled with responsibility of implementation of ACRESAL project activities, he added.

ACRESAL is a project conceived by the World Bank with the aim of increasing the adaptation of climate esilience, land management and livelihood improvement of rural communities.

The Commissioner further recalled that tha issue of climate change remains at the top of the agenda list of the environmental promoters world wide, Kano State Government under the able leadership of His Excellency Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje will not relent to always explore ways that will improve the State’s environment.

He then commended the efforts of the Speaker State House Right Honorable Engr. Hamisu Ibrahim Chidari, the Chairman House Committee on Environment Dr. Musa Ali Kachako and all principal officers that facilitated the successful passing of the bill.
