INSPECTION VISIT TO YANSABO WATER CONSERVATION STRUCTURES AND PROVISION OF MINOR IRRIGATION FACILITIES BY THE HON. COMMISSIONER OF ENVIRONMENT DR. KABIRU IBRAHIM GETSO.

The Kano State commissioner of Environment Dr. Kabiru Ibrahim Getso has urged the contractors handling the construction of Yansabo water conservation structures and provision of minor irrigation facilities in Tofa LGA of Kano State to double the shifts for contract to meet up with the record time.

The Commissioner gave the advice today when he visited the site to monitor the progress of the work in the company of some top officials of the Ministry and the staff of the State Project Management Unit (SPMU)






The Commissioner was conducted around the site of the project by the Project Manager and Supervising Consultant where he received explanations on how per the work has reached and the major materials that are on the ground to ensure smooth operation.

Dr. Kabiru Getso said that base on what he has seen on the ground and the explanations especially by the Contract Supervising Consultant the result is quite  remarkable, and then called on the contractor to double  efforts for the  work to be completed within the stipulated time.

Responding to questions by journalists the Commissioner said that the Yansabo water conservation construction is done under the combined efforts of the World Bank, Federal Government of Nigeria and the Kano State Government under the able leadership of His Excellency the Executive Governor Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje (OFR).

The Commissioner further disclosed that the dam is designed to hold the capacity of about 1.7million cubic meters with length of 1.1km combined with irrigation farming facilities to boost the socio-economic status of communities around it.

On his part the State Project Coordinator Alhaji Musa Shu’abu said that the visit aimed to ginger the contractors to accelerate the speed at which the  construction work is moving even if it entails doubling shifts to enable timely completion of the project.

Earlier speaking the project Manager Yusuf Bashaya and the Supervising Consultant said that, they experience some challenges in the course of construction that delayed the progress of the work to some extent, but with the effort of the Client, the Contractor and Supervising  Consultant the challenges have been overcome and work continued in earnest to ensure that they meet the deadline.
