HANDING OVER OF DRIP IRRIGATION PROJECT, AT DAWAN KAYA BY J&J INTEGRATED FARMS LTD TO FPMU AND SPMU OF THE NIGERIA EROSION AND WATERSHED MANAGEMENT PROJECT (NEWMAP)

Kano-NEWMAP has conducted the delegation of the Climate Change and M&E units of the Federal Project Management Unit (FPMU) of the Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP) around the site where drip irrigation system was installed, for handing over to the State Project Management Unit.

This activity fall under the component 3 of the Project “Climate Change ” and aimed at combating drought, desertification and other forms of land degradation.

This pilot project was brought to Kano to help smallholder farmers in order to increase the variety of crops on their farms, produce higher yields and extend their growing season all year round.

The delegation went round to assess the quality of the work done, and enlist the beneficiaries level of satisfaction of the work, as well as the contractor’s level of completion for “HANDING OVER”of the Project to the State Project Management Unit for unward handing over to beneficiaries.

During the focus discussion with beneficiaries at the sites, the delegation asked of the opinion of the farmers on withdrawal of contractor from sites, testimonies by farmers revealed that they had undergone series of trainings and even participated in some Installation activities, reaffirming their willingness to take over from where the contractor stopped.

The representative of the Project Coordinator, Muktar Bello Environmental Safeguard Officer has expressed appreciations for identifying Kano NEWMAP as part of the benefitting state and thanks the Climate Change Unit and the National Project Coordinator for their untiring support through out the general activities of the Kano-NEWMAP

The chairman Community Association Aminu Ali has on behalf of the beneficiaries expressed commendation for bringing the project to their community.

The team for the handing over mission included Mr Ukubo and Madam Riskia from FPMU while SPMU team includes Fatima R. Hanga (NSR), Sulaiman Abubakar (Hydrologist), Engr Buhari Abdullahi (Project Engr), Ahmad Mohd Karaye ( GIS) and Auwal Mohd ( Project Internal Auditor)
