The year 2022 annual drainage clearance exercise has commenced in earnest.
Kano State Ministry of Environment in collaboration with the State Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (Kano-NEWMAP) have embarked on desilting of major and minor drainages within and around the State capital.
This activity which has now become an annual event, is aimed at desilting of major and minor drainages to remove all sorts of blockages to facilitate the free flow of run-of in the event of heavy downpour.
Under the year 2022 desilting exercise about 33.6 km of drainages are scheduled to be cleared within the period of twenty (20) days earmarked for the activity before the rain fully sets in.
The areas proposed for the activity comprised of the Baban-gwari and surrounding (roundabout, confluent and roads), Maiduguri road, Jakara Stream, Mazugal road, Gogau Stream, Emir’s Palace road, kwanar Sabo- Tsamiyar Boka roads, and Getsi Stream.
Other areas included the Gwarzo road, Shagari quarters, Sokoto road, and Shekara Secondary School road.
